Epiphany 4: Brightening the Doorway - Love That Never Gives Up - Dr. GeoffreyJanuary 30, 2022 – 10:00 am Sunday Worship Service This week we continue in our Epiphany series, asking how we can find the love that never gives up. Although recognizing different spiritual gifts was a first step, Paul showed the prideful and quarrelsome Corinthians “a still more excellent way” to become aware of God. At the heart of this beautiful and poetical scripture is a simple and powerful message: this “more excellent way” is to ground ourselves in the love that God shows us in Jesus Christ. That is the love that never gives up.
To prepare for this week’s service, you can read 1 Corinthians 1:1-13 - but we suggest that you start with 1 Corinthians 12: 31b. During Sunday Worship, here are activity sheets for all ages & stages: For more infomation visit: https://www.standrewscalgary.ca/pages/live-streaming-worship

Music ~ good for the soul ~ and the marriage!!!
A couple of weeks ago, Dr. Geoffrey and his wife Joan helped lead music as part of our Praise Team. Geoffrey said that in all the years they’ve been married, in all the choirs they’ve sung in together, this was the first time they had ever sung standing ‘side-by-side’. |
Hospitality – The Ministry of Welcome
Throughout the next few weeks we will be considering the images and actions of “brightening the doorway” – our own doorways, whether those of St. Andrew’s or our homes, and the doorways of others. How appropriate, then, to revisit this article by John-Peter Smit, first published in May 2011. He writes about the Ministry of Welcome: How we do it and how we might do it better. While the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and related restrictions obviously affect some of the examples, the message still applies as we “brighten the doorways.”

“After all the trouble I’ve caused, why are you helping me?”
Unforgiving cold weather takes a terrible toll. Last year, on one of the coldest nights of the year, a troubled member of our community came to our door, freezing and distraught. Click here to read more on how we can help through the work of the Mustard Seed.
