In Mark chapter 9 we read that Jesus took a little child in his arms and said to those around him:  “Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me.”  As fall ushers in the start of our church school program, we are so happy to see those precious faces at the front of the Sanctuary with Laurie - listening and learning.  Telling and teaching.  Being the church in our midst… and our hearts.  Thank you to parents who COULD sleep in on Sunday mornings, but don’t… we are grateful to church school teachers who COULD say ‘not this year’, but don’t… We have been blessed as a congregation to HAVE children in our midst.  Jesus set a pretty good example for all of us.  Welcome the little children.   May it be so.

It is mind-boggling to think that our event is almost upon us.
It has been a long time coming.

Plans are being implemented and things are happening. Bannock is baked. Vegetables for our stew have been donated. Bison meat for the stew is arranged. Over 40 volunteers have signed up!  128 beading kits have been made with more to come.

There are still opportunities to volunteer.

In particular I am still looking for:

•         People to help set up the site on Friday, 27 September. We will start around 4 PM. Come when you can (at 4… or 5… or 6…. or 7) and help as long as you can.
•         The same at the end of the day on the 28th, starting around 3 PM. We will be dismantling most of the site and loading the equipment into a large truck. As they say, “many hands make light work.” Just thinking about the 175 chairs alone…
•         We are looking for a couple more face painters! Equipment provided.
•         It would be a help if we had two people with nursing backgrounds help us out. You never know: the beading tent could get a little wild.

• Peter and his small but mighty team need help from ALL OF US WHO ARE ABLE,  in small and mighty ways ~ before the event, during the event, and following the event.  Click here to see how you might volunteer some of your time 
• The STEW CREW (headed by Terry Basaraba) are looking for COUNTERTOP ROASTERS to help in their preparation of 25 gallons of stew for the Saturday event.  If you have a countertop oven roaster ( not a slow cooker) they can borrow,  please bring it to the church no later than Sunday, Sep 22/2024.

Through the month of September, we hope that you can provide donated items from the list in the link below to assist the Aboriginal Friendship Center as they support our most vulnerable neighbours.

Please join St. Andrew's Rainbow Team for a Film and Conversation night.  We will be watching the documentary "Fish out of water" (2009) by Ky Dickens. The filmaker identifies how the LGBTQ community has been deeply hurt by the misinterpretation of a handful of bible passages which made Ky feel like "A fish out of water" within her own faith community when she came out. Please note that the film contains mature themes such as violence toward the LGBTQ community and self-harm. Feel free to stay after the film to share your thoughts and insights about the film, and/or to listen to the insights of others. Refreshments will be served.

On Monday, Sep 30th at 9:30 am this year’s Moderator of the PCC, Rev. Dr. Patricia Dutcher-Walls will share a morning with us here at St. Andrew’s, challenging us to think about:   How might we take inspiration from our biblical traditions to help discern possibilities for our future?  Register by Monday, September 23 to join in this important discussion!!

We play mixed bridge on Friday, once every two weeks in the Karl English Lounge, and we have availability for a limited number of people to join us.

Over the years our Wellness Team has changed its name, membership and mandate and occasionally asked the congregation for input related to future planning.
This Fall we are asking for your feedback once again as we look at health topic planning for the upcoming season.

The Centre for Missional Leadership at St. Andrew’s Hall invites congregations to sign up a team for our 1 year Certificate Program beginning in September 2024.  Over five Saturdays (September 28, November 23, January 25, March 22 and April 26), in person or online, congregational teams will explore the impact of secularism on the church, develop practices for deeper shared life together, reshape Sunday mornings, equip congregations with lay leaders, and experiment with mission in the broader neighbourhood.  Join Rev. Dr. Ross Lockhart, Rev. Dr. Tim Dickau, Rev.
