The Art of Neighbouring: Making Time - Overcoming Fear and Stereotypes - Dr. Geoffrey SimminsOctober 10, 2021 – 9:30 am Sunday Worship Service How big is the circle of God’s love? That’s the central question we have been asking as we consider how to be a better neighbour. In this week’s service, we will ask how we can overcome fear and stereotypes and respond to others with love and generosity. We will also take the opportunity to remember reasons to be thankful. During Sunday Worship, here are activity sheets for all ages & stages: For more infomation visit: https://www.standrewscalgary.ca/pages/live-streaming-worship

Blessing of the Animals was a huge success on Sunday afternoon
We had dogs, cats, and even a bird! Each animal received a blessing, as well as a treat! What a joy to have furry friends in our lives who become so much a part of our families we want them to be blessed as much as we are blessed to have them.
"The animals of God's creation inhabit the skies, the earth, and the sea and have a part in human life. We, therefore, invoke God's blessing on these animals, over all the creatures of the earth." (Francis of Assisi)

Our sympathy and prayers go to Emma & Tom McIntyre and their family and, once again, to the Lomheim Family
Our sympathy and prayers go to Emma & Tom McIntyre and their family. Emma’s sister Anna died on October 4th in Scotland, following a brief illness. Our faith family send prayers of support to the Lomheim family, Clarence and Pat, David and his family, and Deanne and her family, on the loss of Pat’s mother Johanna Mackintosh. Johanna passed away at the age of 101 years. Deanne remembers her passing quarters to her and her cousins so they had something for the collection plate when they went to Church with her at Jumbo Valley Presbyterian Church. She will be fondly remembered by the family. |
During our Worship Service on November 7th we will be observing Remembrance Day, and will again be showing images of our family members who are veterans.
If you have already sent pictures in previous years you don’t need to submit them again, but if you have never sent a picture that you would like included in the tribute, please send them to ~ communications@standrewscalgary.ca ~ prior to October 31, 2021, and make sure you indicate the name of the person, and how they are related to you. |
Thanks to our Heritage Seniors for all they do for our Neighbourhood:
Three members of our Heritage Seniors and long term congregants at St. Andrew’s are celebrating significant birthdays this coming Saturday, October 9th. They are Alison Horwood (84), Sheena Barclay (89) and George Thomson (91). Thanks for all that they do, along with others, to offer the gifts of physical and mental health to every senior in the neighbourhood! |
AND THE SURVEY SAYS…
The Worship Team would like to thank everyone who responded to our survey. We were very pleased that 114 people took the time to provide feedback so that we can continue to plan meaningful worship this fall and winter. Would it surprise you to know that 70.37% of respondents watch our worship services on-line WEEKLY? Or that 61.82% would prefer our morning service at 10:00 am? Please note: this survey was sent out prior to the most recent Covid restrictions and recommendations. To keep everyone who enters our doors as safe as possible, St. Andrew’s will be following AHS guidelines. We are now asking everyone who comes to worship to show proof of vaccination, masks are always worn, we are safe distancing, and no food or drink is allowed.

An invitation from our Director of Music Ministries, Evan Mounce
As we regather our Music Ministry it is the perfect time to bring new people into this family! Perhaps singing classic carols with full organ accompaniment in a Cathedral might sound like fun? Maybe you play an instrument and would be open to sharing your music for a special occasion? Perhaps you would like to try ringing some handbells? Please reach out! I’d love to hear more about your music making and get you involved in the Music Ministry at St. Andrew's. I look forward to hearing from you. Please send me an email at emounce@standrewscalgary.ca |

Journeying with our Indigenous Community
At St. Andrew’s Indigenous Friendship Day in the Spring of 2019, we embarked on a journey in closer proximity with our Indigenous neighbours. Through this enriching friendship we are learning and growing together. Our whole country mourns the announcement this year of hundreds and hundreds of indigenous children who died and were buried ‘invisibly’ at government sponsored church-run Residential Schools in Canada.
