June 9, 2024 - Encountering the MysteryRev. Laurie McKay The parable of the seed growing without the help of human interference invites us into the mystery of God’s power. We are reminded that it is the nature of God’s reign to grow and to manifest itself gradually and automatically. The second part of the parable (likening the mustard shrub as the “greatest”) is a joke - a surprise! A necessary one! Will we “get it” and laugh or be offended?

Grateful/Thankful/Blessed
Where would the church be without the people who quietly work away doing wonderful things for their faith community? We are grateful that a little bird let us know something that we think should be shared with our faith community. This week at General Assembly, the Presbyterian Building Corporation made a report in which they acknowledged the retirement of MR. ALEX GRANT, who has served as a Director on the Board of the Presbyterian Building Corporation since 1991!!! What a record of denominational service quietly given by Alex through these many years. We know Alex has faithfully served St. Andrew’s all of his time here. Now we know he served ‘the wider community’ as well. Well done, thou good and faithful servant!! |

The Presbyterian Building Corporation
Earlier in our email we mentioned that Alex Grant served as a Director on the Board of the Presbyterian Building Corporation of the Presbyterian Church in Canada. For those who don’t know the work of this corporation, the PBC supports congregations who face building or rebuilding issues with low interest loans. When Marion Barclay’s church in Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia faced a major roof problem, they received a loan from the PCB to be able to move forward with the re-roofing project.
