Congregations seem to remain the same, year after year, even though they are constantly changing and evolving. What should keep us the same….and keep us going…even as we change?

 The traditional words used when imposing ashes on Ash Wednesday are “you are dust and to dust you will return.” God worked with dust, in creating humanity.  And God works with dust, in shaping our lives.
We will reflect on a passage that imagines God as a potter, shaping our lives.  (Jeremiah 18: 1 – 6)

Rev. Peter will lead us in worship, and we will celebrate his time with us these last 2 years. And YES! There WILL be cake!!
And… Rev. Laurie will be worshipping with us this Sunday!
Sunday, February 11th – Saturday, February 24th
This will be an ‘onboarding period’ for Rev. Laurie. She will be in our midst, getting to know us and the ‘lay of the land’, getting organized, acquainted with our team structure, our processes, our vision and mission statements
~ but she will not be leading worship during this time.
Wednesday, February 14th – Ash Wednesday
Please join us for our Ash Wednesday service at 7:00 pm.
Rev. Peter will be preaching.
Sunday, February 18th
Rev. Clay Kuhn will be leading us in worship.
Wednesday, February 21st – Rev. Laurie’s Induction Service
It is IMPORTANT that as many of us as possible attend this service as we begin ministry together with Rev. Laurie here at St. Andrew’s. This is a presbytery service, and will be held at St. Andrew’s on Feb. 21 at 7:30 pm.
Sunday, February 25th
Rev. Laurie will be leading us for the first time in worship.

Our Christian Meditation Group continues to meet on Mondays at 10 am on Zoom. Since Christian Meditation is such a meaningful spiritual practice, all are invited and encouraged to join us over the upcoming season of Lent. Beginning Monday February 19, 2024, we will be sharing a series of very accessible talks about meditation from Liz Watson’s “Images of Meditation.” We hope you will take part! We at St. Andrew’s have been SO BLESSED to have a rich diversity of ministers who have provided pulpit supply to us during these past 2 years.  They have been inspiring and thought provoking.  They have provided guidance, taken us on journeys through the scriptures, and we are grateful that we shared laughter, smiles, and ‘ah ha’ moments together.  We hope that we are saying thanks to the following people, and NOT goodbye, as we know there will be opportunities down the road for us to once again share in worship together.  So, decently and in (alphabetical) order ~ as is the Presbyterian way ~ they are ~ Bruce Clendening, Bart Dailley, Clay Kuhn, Fiona Swanson, Jean Morris, and Peter Coutts.  From the bottom of our hearts - THANK YOU ALL!!

If you can provide cookies or squares that can be served following Rev. Laurie’s Induction Service on February 21, please call the church office at 403-255-0001 or add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Foyer.  This is a Presbytery-wide service that will be held at 7:30 pm.
 ALL are encouraged to attend!!

On Sunday, March 17th the Scouts group will be in the Karl English Lounge following morning worship to give you the opportunity to purchase either sweet popcorn, savoury popcorn - or BOTH!!!   They appreciated the support we provided to them last year, and we are happy to help support them this year too!!

Raising teenagers can be challenging! Advice from a respected author in the field and sharing successes and failures with fellow parents may be just what you need.
We will be starting a weekly Book Study on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. for 4 weeks, from Feb. 21 to March 13, 2024. We will study The Emotional Lives of Teenagers – Raising Connected, Capable and Compassionate Adolescents by Lisa Damour. The Study will be on Zoom and led by our own resource and coach on raising teens, Deanne Barrett.   The book can be purchased on Amazon or at Indigo.

The Search Team has come up with a wonderful idea to help Rev. Laurie get to know our St. Andrew’s family.  They will be presenting Rev. Laurie with a digital photo frame as a welcome gift.  They encourage anyone who is interested to take a photo of themselves along with their families, children, pets, etc. holding up a sign with a word of welcome or blessing along with the names of everyone who is in the picture.  The photo will be sent directly to the digital frame to help Laurie get acquainted with everyone. Words will fail us in our attempt to thank Rev. Peter for all he has done for St. Andrew’s these past two years as our Interim Minister and then as our Interim Moderator.  But we will give it our best effort on Sunday, February 11th.   As part of our thank you, we will be presenting Peter with a Monetary Gift from the congregation on the 11th.    If you would like to contribute, please contact the church office or speak with Dolly or Debby.  ~  Debby Dorcas

February 24, 2024 will be a walking fundraiser event, funds raised going to the work Oxford House does to help those in need in our city.  They are looking for Team Captains.

We extend our sympathy to his wife Mary, sons Jeff and Steve, and to his extended family and friends.  A funeral service was held at St. Andrew’s Wednesday, February 7th to celebrate Tom’s life.
