We were blessed on Sunday to have so many members of our congregation participate in the leadership of our morning worship.  Special thanks to those who said ‘YES!’:

• Rhonda Wishart and Cathy Millar for opening and closing our service
• Inge Murray for helping the church school children teach us the sign language to “Father I Adore You” (we now know how to show appreciation to the choir after they sing a moving piece of music and we want to ‘silently clap’)
• Gia for our Scripture reading
• Emilie, Gretl, Adam, Rennie, Willa and Braeden for helping us pray the ‘Prayers of the People’
• Mathilde Van Der Merwe, Sheila Kirkland and Shona Vandrasco for sharing their favorite hymns/praise songs ~ and the reasons those songs have been important in their lives

Hebrews 10: 24-25 says “Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, but encouraging one another.”  On Sunday we were indeed encouraged.  ~ Deb

We will be commemorating Remembrance Day at our November 12th worship service.  As is our practice, we will again include a slideshow of our congregation’s family members who served in the war.  If you have a picture of someone in your family you would like us to include, please send it to office@standrewscalgary.ca by November 5th.   ~ Deb

One minute can make a difference in a life.  Can you imagine what 150 minutes could do?  On Saturday, October 28th the Faith Formation Team is offering parents/grandparents 150 minutes to themselves when they drop off children (Grades 1 - 6) at St. Andrew’s (Karl English Lounge).  The children get to enjoy a dinner together, along with fun, games and activities.

Eternal God, You know our history of complicated conflicts, tense polarization, and situations so politicized that we are afraid to say or pray anything. Yet we know you grieve the violence of war and condemn acts of terrorism. We know you grieve the historical suffering of Jews and Palestinians. May our prayers for peace be uttered out loud for all to hear, our prayers for diplomacy, and for difficult, yet faithful conversation to resume.

God, we groan in grief over the news of this war in Israel and Gaza. Pave a path toward peace in this age-old, tragic conflict. Protect the innocent wherever bombs of destruction fall. Be with those who are captured and the families of those who are captured. Offer a way out for those who are trapped. Awaken us to our common humanity, our common human needs no matter the walls we build.

Amen.
