Thank you to Pat Pollard who used her expert quilting and sewing skills to graciously create the new banners for the chancel area.  Flying blind, with only a picture to guide her and her trusty helper Rob, she designed the banners at the request of the Rainbow team.  They represent our mission of being ‘woven into the neighborhood’ as an inclusive and welcoming space.’

Have you wanted to learn the ukulele, but got sidetracked? Or received one as a present in Grade 5 and it’s just been gathering dust?  Come and dust off your skills and your ukes, as we learn a few skills in a relaxed no-pressure setting. We will aim to learn a few simple Christmas carols, and if we feel ready as a group, we’ll aim to offer those songs at the 4:30 family service on Christmas Eve.  Just come and have fun in a no-pressure setting. 

Feel free to come at 12:00 with a bag lunch so we chat together before the workshop — and you may wish to come early for our Celtic Advent study, which starts at 11:00 am on the same days in the same room.

The Faith Formation Team has been organizing a gift card for each of St. Andrew’s post secondary students during both the Christmas and spring exam period for several years. We think it is important that our students know they are being thought of and supported by our congregation while they are studying. It can be a stressful time for many students. We are seeking a few individuals or families interested in supporting this worthy cause by purchasing a $25 gift card i.e., a Starbuck’s, Tim Horton’s, Subway, Chapters/Indigo gift card. You would mail the gift card with a caring handwritten message to a student, whose name and address will be provided to you by the FF Team. The students are always grateful for the gift and encouragement!  If you are interested, please email Rhonda Wishart at Rhonda.wishart@icloud.com  (or phone 403-614-9924) to be provided the name and address of a student. This year, St. Andrew’s will have opportunities to give to those in need ~ and indeed ~  to show our love and concern for those within our own community.  As we each consider how we might participate in the upcoming ‘Season of Giving’, click the button below to read about the upcoming opportunities to brighten the lives of our neighbours.

Following our Indigenous Friendship Day, we will be collaborating with the Aboriginal Friendship Center to provide soup for 150 community members at the centre.

We need 13 ice cream buckets to transport the soup.  We have a simple soup recipe, but need a team who might make it in our kitchen ~ to be frozen and then warmed up at the centre.  We hope to make 2 batches for November and December, and then we’re hoping to provide soup once a month in the new year.  Please contact the office at 403-255-0001 or office@standrewscalgary.ca if you would enjoy preparing soup for the Aboriginal Friendship Centre.  This will happen sometime after the bazaar! 

If you have stock pots, or ladles to donate to the centre to reheat the soup, they would be most appreciated.

The letter from the Moderator of the 2024 General Assembly, the Rev. Dr. Pat Dutcher-Walls, to the Prime Minister of Canada, the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, conveys the Presbyterian Church in Canada’s deep concern for the situation in the Middle East, which continues to escalate. The letter is written out of a commitment to the protection of all people made vulnerable by violence, given the denomination’s long history of political and economic advocacy where human rights are violated or genocide is suspected. In line with previous commitments and an understanding of what faithful witness in the world today demands, The Presbyterian Church in Canada calls on the Government to commit to five different actions, urging Canada to continue to push for a permanent ceasefire.
