Grateful/Thankful/Blessed
We are so thankful, grateful and blessed to have attended Stewardship Kaleidoscope together on behalf of St. Andrew’s and the Presbyterian Church in Canada last month in Portland, Oregon. We participated in excellent workshops and sessions focused on generosity and stewardship. We met clergy and lay leaders from the Presbyterian and Lutheran churches in Canada and the US and had the opportunity to participate in evening worship together at First Presbyterian Church. Most rewarding was travelling together, having the opportunity to work through the questions, topics and ideas we learned in our workshops, all focused on making an impact here at St. Andrew’s. It was time to bond, grow in faith, be renewed in our work, and have fun. Thank you! ~ Dolly Forcade, Stephanie Werle, Shona Vandrasco |

Invitation from the Rainbow Team - Friday, October 18th, 7:00-8:30 pm - Karl English Lounge
Please join St. Andrew's Rainbow Team for a Film and Conversation night. We will be watching the documentary "Fish out of water" (2009) by Ky Dickens. The filmaker identifies how the LGBTQ community has been deeply hurt by the misinterpretation of a handful of bible passages which made Ky feel like "A fish out of water" within her own faith community when she came out. Please note that the film contains mature themes such as violence toward the LGBTQ community and self-harm. Feel free to stay after the film to share your thoughts and insights about the film, and/or to listen to the insights of others. Refreshments will be served. |

Caring and Connecting Corner
If you would like support for someone living with dementia, you are not alone. In Canada, nearly 600,000 people are living with dementia and that number is expected to reach 1.7 million by 2050. The Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) in Ontario are leaders in dementia research and provide strategies to improve the care and quality of life for those impacted by dementia. One of their research papers provides details about how to create safe living spaces for people living with dementia. This includes paying attention to monitoring noises, sensory challenges, lighting, décor, and furniture placement. If you would like to know more, here is a link that will provide detailed information. You can also subscribe to their newsletter, which offers helpful information about spirituality and ageing. The Apology of the PCC
The Presbyterian Church in Canada made a Confession in 1994 for our role in operating residential schools and colonization, but we have since realized our confession was inadequate, and we are sorry. The link found below is the apology of the Presbyterian Church in Canada to the generations of Indigenous people and communities harmed by the residential schools and day schools we operated. Warning! In response to a request from our Aboriginal Friendship Centre partners, we write this warning to alert those who may not be aware of the impact that this document may have on them. The content of the apology may be difficult to read, especially for those who have experienced the harm done firsthand or to beloved family/community. Be gentle with yourself and aware of the impact for others. It may be helpful to read with another safe person present to support the impact this may have on you. It may be helpful to have a plan for what you might do after reading this apology – writing in a journal, walk in nature, a healing circle, etc. – something that you personally find healing. For those who have not been aware of past harm, the apology names many disturbing truths. For those who would like to learn, have courage. Truth telling is essential and a first step in making meaningful apology. Without genuine apology, reconciliation, or creating a relationship where none previously existed, is not possible. While we may not have been the ones who initiated harm, we can say “I’m so sorry this happened.” These words, spoken with integrity, have power to bring healing. In hope… Rev. Laurie McKay
